The 10 commandments from the Bible and the Qur’an

The 10 commandments from the Bible and the Qur’an. The 1st four shows our Love to Allah, and the last 6 show our Love to our Neighbors.

#1 You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20:3)

Do not associate another deity with God.(Q 17:22) Know therefore that there is no god but God. (Q 47:19)

#2 You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God… (Exodus 20:4-5)

No visions can encompass Him, but He encompasses all visions. (Q 6:103) My Lord, make this a peaceful land, and protect me and my children from worshiping idols.(Q14:35) There is nothing that equals (like) Him. (Q42:11)

#3 You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. (Exodus 20:7)

Do not use God’s name in your oaths as an excuse to prevent you from dealing justly. (Q 2:224) Remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him exclusively. (Q 73:8) Glorify the name of your Lord morning and evening. (Q 76:25)

#4 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. (Exodus 20:8-11)

And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath; We said to them: “Be ye apes despised and rejected.” So We made it an example to their own time and to their posterity, and a lesson to those who fear Allah. (Q 2:65-66) O you who believe, when the Congregational Prayer is announced on Friday, you shall hasten to the commemoration of GOD, and drop all business. (Q 62:9)

#5 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you. (Exodus 20:12)

You shall be kind to your parents. If one or both of them live to their old age in your lifetime, you shall not say to them any word of contempt nor repel them, and you shall address them in kind words. You shall lower to them the wing of humility and pray: “O Lord! Bestow on them Your blessings just as they cherished me when I was a little child.” (Q 17:23-24)

#6 You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13)

And do not take any human being’s life – that God willed to be sacred – other than in [the pursuit of] justice. (Q 17:33)

#7 You shall not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)

You shall not commit adultery. Surely it is a shameful deed and an evil way.(Q 17:32)

#8 You shall not steal. (Exodus 20:15)

The thief, male or female, you shall mark their hands as a punishment for their crime, and to serve as an example from GOD. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise. (Q 5:38-39)

#9 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (Exodus 20:16)

And (know that the true servants of God are) those who do not bear witness to falsehood. (Q 25:72)

#10 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor. (Exodus 20:17)

Do not covet the bounties that God has bestowed more abundantly on some of you than on others. (Q 4:32)

10 Commandments are listed in the above suras. They are not found distinctly in order in the Quran.
